HOUSTON – (Sept. 28, 2015) When Savage Brands Design Director and Principal Doug Hebert attended a concert by Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder, he expected to enjoy his favorite singer and a fantastic show. He got much more when Vedder inspired him to help make a difference in the lives of people battling a devastating and rare skin disease—Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
When Doug Hebert attended a concert by Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder in 2012, he expected to see his favorite singer put on another fantastic show. What he got was so much more. Doug walked away inspired to make a difference in the lives of people he has never even met.
During the show, Eddie Vedder took time to speak to the crowd about his support for a little-known, yet devastating rare skin disease called Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). He talked about how he and his wife Jill are committed to finding a cure for EB after their dear friends had a son born with the condition. Vedder’s comments moved Doug, a diehard Pearl Jam fan and 15-year fan club member, to use his professional platform to create change through design.
Impact A Hero honored Savage Brands as Partner of the Year at its 2015 Hall of Fame Gala. The honor recognizes the extensive contribution made by Savage Brands, a leading Houston branding, communications and design firm, in developing a new communications strategy that reflected the organization’s purpose – to help severely wounded heroes returning home from post-9/11 combat.
When design works, it can unite people. At least that seemed to be the case at the World Youth Day (WYD) event as observed from the outside. The visuals of WYD, or Jornada Mundial de la Juventud (JMJ) as written in Portuguese, left a lasting impression on my mind when I visited Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the end of July (but no, I did not see the Pope!).
Savage believes in the power of using our talent for good. That’s why we established Savage Good, an initiative that provides strategic creative services to nonprofit organizations on a pro bono basis. Through Savage Good, powerful design has changed the lives of hundreds of people.
