As early as he can remember, Doug was inspired by music.
As early as he can remember, Doug was inspired by music. Whether it was the first Kiss album he ever bought at six years old, listening to it hundreds of times and staring at the album art for hours; the Iron Maiden, Metallica and Motley Crue albums in high school that he drew repeatedly; or Public Enemy and Pearl Jam that served as background music while he painted in college – it all served as inspiration he would channel into creativity. To Doug, inspiration is life, an energy, something you can breathe in and ingest – more sustaining than the finest caffeinated, gluten-free, protein-packed, responsibly-sourced substance on earth.
Today, his inspirations are broader – including family, mountain biking, tattoos, caffeine, fishing, photography, cool mountain air and of course, heavy music – he is for sure the only person in the mosh pit with two artificial knees. And he continues to channel that inspiration into the creation of multifaceted branding and communications programs across a variety of media for clients such as Champion Fiberglass, Halliburton, CenterPoint Energy and Sysco Corporation. Along the way his work has been featured in major design publications including Communication Arts and Graphis, and recognized by organizations like AIGA and the Type Director’s Club.
Doug’s true passion lies in helping non-profit organizations reach their audience and inspire change through strategic design. He has received grants to implement projects on behalf of non-profit clients including The University of Texas Health Science Center, Depelchin Children’s Center, GLSEN, MD Anderson Cancer Center and EB Research Partnership. This work also led him to found Savage Good, a broader initiative for Savage employees to participate in that provides strategic creative services to non-profit organizations on a pro bono basis.
